Deadwooding

Deadwooding is the removal of dead wood in a tree. Although dead wood in a tree is a great home for wildlife, sometimes it can pose a risk should it break off. This can be mitigated by removing any pieces of wood that has decayed. This also improves the overall health of the tree, allowing it a chance to callus over and seal the wound from the elements.
